Jim Whiddon, author, Texas A&M professor, and CEO of The Old School was the guest presenter at C3’s first Zoom Consume & Converse on May 13, 2020. As a special treat, the first 10 to register also received a complimentary autographed copy of his book, The Old School Advantage.

Jim said of his experience, “ I was honored to able to address the Consume and Converse event and talk about critical people skills. I was also flattered by the immediate response and positive feedback I received from several of the attendees. What a fine and distinguished group of professionals. I hope I get a chance to cross paths again in the future!”
Now more than ever, individuals are challenged to connect with business colleagues, clients, and family members. By focusing on things that never change, Jim demonstrated how we can greatly increase the speed of trust.
For example, how do you connect with anyone – anywhere? By using what he calls LAVA. Location, Association, Vocation, Avocation. The key is learning about who they are versus what they do!
Jim also shared the key differences between “time management” and “time leadership.” By setting priorities to do less, we do more! The concepts of time blocking and GAMA (Give Me A Deadline) demonstrated how this becomes possible.
Developing the art of asking great questions was another topic reviewed. Jim provided what he considered his top 3 questions. Also, remembering to use “tell me more” can be a great way to learn more about the meanings behind the words.
Lastly, Jim touched on the art of the handwritten note to create a positive and lasting impression. He shared that “it is one of the most impactful actions you can take because it brings out the best in you.”
Jim closed with sharing his extensive postage stamp collection, and how he uses this special touch for the Old School Advantage!
